| Three NMAEE and Energy related stories are in the news this summer.
GLEN K. KILCUP, P.E. NAMED AEE 2010 INTERNATIONAL ENERGY ENGINEER - NMAEE's recipient of the Chapter 2009 Energy Engineer award, Glen K. Kilcup, P.E. was nominated by the NMAEE Chapter (April 2010) for consideration at the International Award level. On July 12, 2010, AEE International sent out a News Flash notifying Glen and myself that AEE International Awards Committee had selected Glen K. Kilcup, P.E., as the AEE 2010 International Energy Engineer . NMAEE congratulated Glen on this award and his 30 plus years of work and dedication in the field of energy engineering.
ASHRAE INVADES ALBUQUERQUE - The Annual National Meeting of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers was held in Albuquerque June 26-30, 2010. ASHRAE revealed the changes to the ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2010 Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low Rise Residential Buildings during presentations at this meeting. These improvements typically impact the building energy codes within two years, when states adopt the International Building Codes standards. Currently the 2006 International Energy Conservation codes is largely based on requirements adopted from the ASHRAE 90.1-2007 edition. So the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code will be adopting most of the requirements of the ASHRAE 90.1-2010 standard being released this year.
2009 NEW MEXICO ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE PUBLIC HEARINGS - The state of New Mexico Constructions Industries Division recently held public hearings for comments regarding numerous proposed changes to state building codes, including the New Mexico Energy Conservation Code. The current 2006 New Mexico Energy Conservation Code mostly adopts the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code, which is based on requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2004. The proposed 2009 New Mexico Energy Conservation Codes mostly adopts the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, which is based on requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2007. Some exceptions which enhance the 2009 New Mexico Energy Conservation Code are similar to requirements in ASHRAE Standard 189.1 -2009 Standard for the Design of High Performance Green Buildings.
Once results of the public hearings are reviewed and any changes are made then final adoption and enforcement of the 2009 New Mexico Energy Conservatio0n Code is expected. Hopefully NMAEE can conduct a monthly meeting on this topic early next year.
Copies of the proposed rules are currently available on the Construction Industries Division's website: www.rld.state.nm.us/cid and at the CID office in Santa Fe. |
